Elixir Foundations CIC

Elixir Foundations CIC, established 2008 as a Social Enterprise dedicated to creating opportunity for vulnerable adults. Elixir target groups include people recovering from addiction, ex-offenders and the long-term unemployed. Elixir CEO, Ben Donnelly understands first hand the barriers faced to rebuilding lives, families, careers and communities, having overcome his own addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Elixir Foundations Community Interest Company is a social enterprise with a commercially sustainable business model. We improve the lives of volunteers whilst offering high quality services to local businesses, in a way that maximises positive impact on the local community and environment.  In our first year of trading, Elixir Foundations has achieved significant growth and success, which has been recognised by Senior Investment manager for UnLtd, Patrick Shine: "For the last 3 years I have helped high potential social entrepreneurs across the UK to scale their organisations and impact. In my experience, Elixir Foundations CIC and the group of social enterprises is exceptional in their speed of growth and I am confident it is the fastest growing social enterprise in the North of England at the present time." Elixir success was also recognised during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2008, where Chief Executive, Ben Donnelly, received the Future 100 Entrepreneurs Award.

We are diverse in our commercial services providing waste management, recycling, and property improvement and maintenance services. Elixir has saved over 1000 tonnes of UPVC from landfill and over 7000 tonnes of Co2 emissions from going into the atmosphere. Passionate about creating opportunity through real training and employment, Elixir's commitment to social change and sustainability has seen the development of highly qualified property services team who successfully completed a pilot project with Connaught PLC and One Vision Housing. The team is based around Future Jobs Fund people from the Sefton area. Development and growth of property services with housing organisations and councils are essential to providing quality work based training and employment opportunities to our target client base of the homeless, recovering addicts, ex-offenders and long-term unemployed. PVC-U Recycling At our depot in Kirkby we employ many of our staff through the Future Jobs Fund. It is here that we process PVC-U window frames and doors that would otherwise be sent to land fill.

We offer a collection service to customers of all sizes. No matter what area of business we are in it is becoming more and more important to demonstrate a commitment to energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable manufacturing processes and responsible disposal of waste materials. Elixir works closely with our partners to ensure that we deliver a service which is second to none.

We pride ourselves on our quality of service and this is represented by the satisfaction of our customers. We work with Social Housing providers, local authorities and commercial businesses. By working with Elixir you are supporting a true Social Enterprise and providing real sustainable jobs for young people. Post Consumer Post Consumer plastics are PVC-U window frames and doors that have been removed from properties for upgrade or from demolition sites. This massive amount of UK waste would normally go to landfill. We collect post consumer PVC-U from our partner’s sites across the UK. The process then starts back at the depots in Doncaster and Kirkby. Our technicians unload the frames and sections and then they are broken down into manageable sections. These sections are then stripped of all the rubber and internal and external metals. These sections are then cut into smaller sections and despatched to be granulated. This granulated product is then manufactured into other plastic products. Post Manufacture (Virgin Plastics) Post manufacture plastics or commonly termed “Virgin Plastics” are collected from our partner’s sites across the UK. These are collected as frame sections or as off cuts from the factories. We supply cages and containers for our customers to make the collection easy and low cost. The process then starts back at the depot in Kirkby. Our technicians unload the frames, sections and off-cuts then, if necessary they are broken down into manageable sections. These sections are then cut into smaller sections and despatched to be granulated. This granulated product is then manufactured into other plastic products. We have our own weighing facilities here on-site to ensure all the incoming weights are recorded offering complete transparency to our customers. Other Bi-Products After we have carried out the processing of the PVCu stock, we are left with high grade biproducts in addition to the plastics that are also perfect for recycling such as: •Aluminium •Brass •Steel •Rubber
