Christmas Care by Food AWARE scheme hugely popular!
13th December 2010
We have received requests for over 1,500 food parcels from over 60 organisations/projects across South Yorkshire supporting vulnerable and deprived people.
Deliveries started on 8th Dec 2010 and will continue up to 23rd Dec 2010 so that they can be received by beneficiaries across Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster in time for Christmas.
Thanks go to Factory Foods in Rotherham, KP Nuts in Rotherham, United Biscuits, Sainsbury's in Doncaster, Real Aid UK, International Produce and Yorkshire Bank Financial Solutions Centre in Sheffield where staff are making food donations as part of the 'Cares at Christmas' scheme organised by Business in the Community. This is in addition to other contributions e.g. fruit and winter veg from our regular suppliers.
Projects/organisations who have contacted us requesting food parcels are currently being contacted to agree delivery arrangements. Your patience is appreciated as we try to get as many food parcels out to those most vulnerable in time for Christmas. In order to help cover some of our transport costs, fuel costs and volunteer expenses, a financial donation from each benefiting project is required. If you are aware of any other suppliers who might be able to offer some surplus produce or if you are able to make a financial donation towards fuel costs, please get in touch.
Thanks go to our many volunteers who are helping us to make this happen e.g. Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR) where around 15 of their staff helped us to make up over 500 food boxes last week, Quaker House/Doncaster Conversation Club volunteers who helped us to make up over 300 food boxes last week plus those volunteers who have responded to recent press/media articles e.g. Chris, Jackie, Janet, Jeanette, Gary etc. Plus, our regular volunteers e.g. Mark Dockerty, Roy, Tommy Joyce and Simon - you know we can't achieve this without your continued support!
Thanks also to Doctors actor and recent Master Chef finalist, Chris Walker, who called in to rally on some of our dedicated volunteers last Tuesday.
Merry Christmas everyone!!
