Doncaster recording studio to launch new community radio and media project

11th April 2007

Press Release April 2007

Higher Rhythm Recording Studio, a not for profit Doncaster company are all set for a big double launch of a new community radio station and an innovative media project for Doncaster.

Higher Rhythm had a big year in 2006, scooping national winner position in the prestigious BECTA (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) Awards and the launch of their new town centre state of the art recording and training facility. Now Higher Rhythm, are set to launch SINE FM, a new community radio station for Doncaster.

The station will feature unsigned music, spoken word programmes, community features, non-english shows; plus music such as: indie, world music, northern soul and urban / underground music. The station will also provide a new training facility which will add to higher rhythms current range of music technology training programmes, and will be home to the SINE internet based station which will link the Doncaster community with listeners worldwide.

The station has already attracted a great deal of support from all sectors of the community and in order to keep the station focussed completely on community need, a public consultation will be conducted in mid April where community representatives will be invited to guide the future development of the station.

SINE will be running a 48 hour broadcast on the 2nd and 3rd of June, and the frequency will be announced soon. Higher Rhythm also intend to apply to OFCOM for a full community broadcast license before July this Year. You can visit the higher rhythm at www.higherrhythm.co.uk for more details, or telephone 01302 327769.

This also coincides with the launch of an exciting new media project from Higher Rhythm. An Awards for All grant has just provided over £ 5000 to develop the innovative '50 words project' by Higher Rhythm. This will involve engaging people from minority ethnic groups in Doncaster in producing a series of CDs which will introduce residents of

Doncaster to the first basic and most commonly used words of the many new languages in the town, as a way of improving general cultural awareness.

Steve Mundin, senior manager of Higher Rhythm added, "the 50 words project has been in development for some time so we are pleased to finally be able to move forward with it, and the radio station has been received with a massive positive response. So many people have come forward to be involved, and the RSL 48 hour broadcast will involve many of these, which includes local community groups, learning providers, public funders and charities; not to mention some of the up and coming creative and musical talent from across the borough. SINE will enhance the provision in

Doncaster by offering an alternative choice of programming to other stations and we have already discussed our intentions with other providers to make sure we enhance rather than duplicate existing services. This really is the start of something new and exciting.
