Doncaster Skilled for Health Funding Programme 2010-2011
7th April 2010
Skilled for Health is a national strategy for integrating health improvement and skills development. It aims to simultaneously address low skills and health inequalities that are prevalent within traditionally disadvantaged communities.
The Doncaster Skilled for Health programme is funded by NHS Doncaster until 31st March 2011 and includes:
· Taster sessions and courses focusing on improving participant’s levels of ‘health literacy’ (the degree to which individuals can obtain, process, and understand the basic health information and services they need to make appropriate health decisions)
· Health literacy awareness training for frontline workers
· Training sessions to create a bank of local tutors for the courses
Community & Voluntary Funding
NHS Doncaster wish to involve the community and voluntary organisations in providing Skilled for Health taster sessions and courses.
Funding is therefore available to these organisations to apply for financial support to provide tasters and courses in their own communities.
