This course covers all aspects of the trainer’s role, from planning to delivering, assessing and evaluating training. The delivery and assessment of both non-accredited and accredited training will be covered during the course and the course will also look at the current context of the teaching role.
Delivery of this course is through 5 one-day sessions, plus online tutor support and resources. Access to an Internet-enabled computer is required and VAS will be able to make arrangements for learners without Internet access to use a computer here at The Circle.
Work Required:
Accreditation on this course is not mandatory - but it is available at no additional charge. A choice of three routes is available: OCN level 2, OCN level 3, and the NOCN Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS). Everyone registering for this course will be contacted before it begins to discuss their aspirations and preferences.
To achieve OCN accreditation at either level 2 or level 3, you must attend each day of the course and complete assignments that demonstrate your ability to apply the learning to a real-life situation. You can expect to spend a minimum of 30 hours (an average of 4 hours per week, with the majority of that work falling after week 2) in homework.
Learners who want to meet the LLUK requirements for new teachers can choose to work towards PTLLS, the 'gateway' qualification that confers a 'licence to teach'
To achieve PTLLS, you must meet the entry requirements set by the LLUK, which includes a minimum level of literacy, numeracy and IT skills and evidence of competence in the subject you will teach. In most other ways, the requirements for PTLLS are the same as those for level 3 OCN (as above) but additional assignments may be required.
